摘要: Scientific and lay conceptions shape recommendation domains, no less so for agroforestry than other areas of natural resource management. The belief that trees are by definition ecologically-benign socially-neutral has led to the unqualified promotion certain fastgrowing economically profitable tree species in eastern African highlands. Yet ethnobotanical research highlands highlights a number negative social environmental impacts from trees. Following brief introduction nature these impacts, chapter is dedicated discussion approaches being developed under umbrella Highlands Initiative make explicit manage trade-offs inherent selection. It also some promising avenues through which more nuanced socially-informed may evolve.
