Chronic renal failure with gout: A marker of chronic lead poisoning

摘要: EDTA (calcium disodium edetate) lead mobilization and x-ray fluorescence (XRF) finger bone tests were done in 42 patients with chronic renal failure without persisting intoxication. Nineteen of 23 gout 8 19 had positive tests. Those excreted significantly more excess chelate than those gout. In the group 17 denied any childhood or industrial exposure to lead. They a greater number 14 neither nor exposure. These results confirm that presence is useful marker poisoning. Of 27 tests, only 13 elevated XRF concentrations (sensitivity 48%). Three 15 negative (specificity 80%). Although test convenient noninvasive addition diagnostic evaluation gout, its application limited due lack sensitivity method.
