摘要: OBJECTIVE: To describe the types of aquatic locations attended by residents rural and remote New South Wales (NSW), to record self-reported water safety-related behaviour, identify preferred communication mediums for safety messages. METHODS: A stratified random telephone survey was conducted 500 NSW aged greater than 15 years residing in moderately accessible, very NSW. RESULTS: Results indicate that around two-thirds respondents had been or on at a pool, beach, lake, river dam past 6 months. The most common type facilities used were rivers, creeks streams (53.5%), beaches (45.7%), public pools (45.5%), private (40.7%), dams (40.6%) lakes (27.0%). Time spent each these time day location visited varied. Overall, majority reported practicing water-related safe behaviour. Preferred messages included television, schools newspapers. CONCLUSIONS: Water education, especially relation beach conditions, remains just as important topic health authorities key agencies regional it is coastal suburbs. Responses from survey, along with stakeholder advice, will be inform development appropriate strategies aimed reduce drowning deaths
