摘要: Achieving high conversion of large multiply charged biological ions into low charge states involves requirements difficult to reconcile when transmission and good spray quality (resulting in narrow mobility distributions) are sought. These multiple goals achieved this invention by partially isolating different regions from each other with electrostatic barriers relatively transparent ions, such as metallic grids. One region requires electric fields for ion generation. The region, used recombination, is approximately field-free. In an alternative arrangement intended reduction sub-millisecond times, two sources opposite polarities placed contiguously, a grid between. all cases, crossing through grids field free effectively driven space charge.
