摘要: Firefighting is a high-risk occupation that accounts for vulnerability to range of mental health problems and addictive behaviours. However, no research has addressed whether this extends gambling problems, the aim study was thus provide new data on frequency implications such in occupational context. The sample consisted n = 566 career retained firefighters who participated cross-sectional survey an Australian metropolitan fire service. Problem Gambling Severity Index (PGSI) used operationalise both clinically significant levels problem (PGSI ≥ 5), 'at-risk' (PGSI 1-4); alongside measures major depression (PHQ-9), anxiety (GAD-7), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PCL-5) alcohol (AUDIT), as well other behaviours, wellbeing psychosocial issues. Results indicated 12.3% reported any across continuum severity (PGSI ≥ 1), including 2.3% were gamblers, 10.0% reporting at-risk gambling. weighted prevalence comparable conditions PTSD, while rate high relative associated with poor wellbeing, but not indicators (e.g., financial difficulties). findings suggest spectrum may be yet hidden issues among emergency service workers, require increased recognition responses at organisational level.
