Inhibitory effect of curcuminoids on MCF-7 cell proliferation and structure-activity relationships

摘要: Curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin are the yellow coloring phenolic compounds isolated from spice turmeric. This study was part of a program correlating biological activity molecular structure antitumor agents; effect these curcuminoids cyclocurcumin (Cyclocur) examined on proliferation MCF-7 human breast tumor cells. Curcuminoids appeared to be potent inhibitors, whereas Cyclocur less inhibitory. To contribute our understanding mechanism antiproliferative curcumin, cell cycle analysis performed by propidium iodide staining flow cytometry technique. Curcumin exerts cytostatic at G2/M which explains its activity. The presence diketone moiety in curcumin molecule seems essential for inhibitory
