摘要: An extended cloud-clustering method to assess the seasonal variation of clouds is applied five CMIP5 models. The total cloud radiative effect (CRE) dominated by variations in relative frequency occurrence different regimes. Seasonal CRE within individual regimes contribute much less. This case for both observations, models and model errors. error regimes, its breakdown into mean amplitude time varying components, are quantified with a new metric. relatively well simulated tropics, but less extra-tropics. stratocumulus regime has largest shortwave despite having small magnitude climatological mean. Most capture temporal reasonably well, main differences between coming from amplitude. In extra-tropics, most fail correctly represent congestus, frontal annual climatology underestimated anvil cirrus congestus this study that best tend have higher climate sensitivities.
