摘要: CONTEXT Graduate medical education is currently facing major educational reforms. There a lack of empirical evidence in the literature about learning processes residents clinical workplace. This qualitative study uses 'grounded theory' approach to continue development theoretical framework workplace by adding perspective attending doctors. METHODS A total 21 Dutch doctors involved training obstetrics and gynaecology participated 1 3 focus group sessions. They discussed their perceptions how learn what factors influence residents' learning. grounded theory was used analyse transcribed discussions. RESULTS Three related themes emerged. The first concerned central role participation work-related activities: according doctors, tackling everyday challenges work. second ways which from activities. final theme focused on doctors' views essential characteristics during residency. CONCLUSIONS Attending perspectives complement current insights derived similar research among literature. As part an ongoing effort further develop understanding learn, this adds several strive combine guidance both patient care resident training. Furthermore, draw attention other aspects workplace, such as confidence balance between supervision independence.
