Preliminary Report on the Torngat Archaeological Project

摘要: The Torngat Archaeological Project conducted two seasons of field work in northern Labrador 1977-78. Surveys by boat and ground crews ranging from Nain to the Button Islands located nearly 350 archaeological sites gathered data many geological botanical stations. Cultures represented this region include all known arctic groups (Pre-Dorset, Dorset, Thule, Inuit) Indian cultures (Maritime Archaic, Saunders, Point Revenge) central coast. In addition contributing knowledge 6000 years culture history environmental cultural frontier, project is investigating relationships processes change which have affected Eskimo, Indian, European settlement. This paper presents a overview discusses TAP goals, physical setting, analytical orientation, methods, preliminary conclusions.
