摘要: Background: Accurate and comfortable methods are needed to determine resting energy expenditure (REE) in older people who characterized by a lowered metabolic rate. The portable SenseWear (R) armband (SWA) body monitor, worn on the right upper arm, can easily be used this age group an ambulatory manner. Objective: purpose of study was evaluate reliability accuracy SWA determining REE healthy, normal-weight people. Methods: Participants were 49 older, community-dwelling volunteers aged 60-87 years. Reliability tested all subjects. Accuracy analyzed 32 subjects comparing estimated against measured indirect calorimetry as criterion method. Data simultaneously continuously recorded for 20 min morning. In same subjects, determined from night recording evaluated calorimetry. agreement between assessed Bland-Altman procedure. Results: (1) reliable when 2 consecutive measurements (typical error: 1.9). (2) calculated morning (1,543 +/- 181 kcal/24 h) higher than (1,564 192 h; p = 0.018). (3) Compared with (1,377 228 accuracy, overestimated mean 12 14, respectively, (each < 0.001). Conclusions: provides estimate healthy has advantage easy handling. 20-min time, which recommended manufacturer, applied. However, overestimates group, possibly due age-related changes skin conductance thermoregulation, both being sensors armband. This requires improving developing better fitting algorithms predicting Copyright (C) 2011 S. Karger AG, Basel
