摘要: Nutrient enrichment of inshore waters is considered the ultimate cause “island mass” effect Barbados, and other tropicalislands. The present study an evaluation three principal causative mechanisms Barbados coastal waters, i.e. run-off from land, a nutrient exchange between benthos overlying internal waves lunar periodicity. Attempts to link high precipitation primary production rates or low salinity with levels were unsuccessful. This suggested that land-drainage was not important factor. Comparisons concentrations C14 fixation in two contrasting (sand coral) benthic situations showed “trends” rather than statistically valid differences these variables. A simple calculation potential supply versus actual demand represent source enrichment. It contribute observed standing crop which are characteristic effect.
