Is handedness associated with health outcomes for people who inject illicit drugs

摘要: Approximately 10% of the global population is left-handed. Much research has been directed at handedness and health, with reports left-handers suffering higher rates numerous health conditions, accidents, injuries ultimately, significantly reduced lifespans. Most previous focused on ‘well’ or general-population samples; no investigations effects injecting drug users’ (IDUs) are known.Aim: To investigate associations between outcomes among IDUs–a marginalized subgroup worse than average.Methods: A total 346 self-identified left- (9.5%) right-handed current IDUs were recruited in Australian states Queensland, New South Wales Victoria late 2006 interviewed about their behaviour.Findings: Many socio-demographic, status injury occurrence variables evaluated univariately, but only two associated handedness.
