摘要: This study assessed the current status of Awoja in Ngora district Eastern Uganda. Remote sensing, household survey, In Pac S methodology and focus group discussions were used to acquire data from April July, 2015. Landsat satellite imageries 2007 2013 acquired by USGS Earth Explorer quantify land use/cover changes. Five types identified namely; (1) open water (2) wetland (3) tree cover (4) agriculture (5) built up area. The findings indicate a fivefold increase area 154.27Km 2 changed 8.7 Km reduction -1.0Km -48.07Km -11.4.0Km . survey results indicated deforestation, encroachment, poor attitude over population as main reasons for degradation. showed convergence perceived indicator degraded watershed terms soil quality; vegetation type species diversity among lay people technocrats. discussion negative trend change. There is need concerted effort design an appropriate restoration strategy Awoja. Keywords: Land use/cover, remote GIS other methods
