摘要: In this special issue we present papers based on data from the UK's Acid Waters Monitoring Network (UK AWMN) and other UK acid waters. The AWMN was set up in 1988. It designed to monitor chemical biological response of acidified surface waters planned reduction emission acidic sulphur nitrogen gases as required by UNECE Convention Long Range Transboundary Air Pollution. Most volume are concerned with changes that have taken place at 22 sites during 20 years monitoring 1988 2008. They show significant deposition chemistry, water chemistry and, a lesser extent, biology place, consistent recovery acidification. However, when compared pre-acidification conditions inferred lake sediment records, extent so far is shown be quite limited. also contains aspects acidification UK. include evidence for persistent highly streams North York Moors, Scotland showing how afforestation modifying results speciation modelling explaining relationship between macroinvertebrate species richness final projections future which will continue improve. conclude albeit slowly century but pressures principally climate land-use change likely alter pathways towards novel ecological endpoints potentially different past baselines.
