摘要: Marisa cornuarietis is a well known ampullarid competitor/predator of Biomphalaria glabrata in Puerto Rico. For the first time Africa flourishing population has been established small, permanent, man-made dam at Kisangara, near Moshi, Tanzania. Prior to release M. June 1977, this supported thriving populations pulmonate snail hosts pfeifferi and Lymnaea natalensis; Bulinus tropicus melaniid Melanoides tuberculata were also common. Some 24 months after establishment three species had eliminated; only remained about same density as originally recorded. not caused any obvious adverse environmental impact dam. There present no valid evidence that would be threat local rice production, which crop risk, but carefully designed field trials should undertaken confirm or refute view. In view vast number lentic habitats throughout Afrotropical region, act important transmission sites schistosomiasis fascioliasis, role cost-effective biological control agent integrated operations deserves henceforth energetically explored.
