摘要: Abstract The objectives of this study were to examine quantitatively the histological changes in incompetent degenerative mitral valves obtained at surgery for valve repair, and determine whether Barlow’s disease (BD) fibroelastic deficiency (FED) can be distinguished by histology. billowing leaflet syndrome (or disease) FED on basis clinical patterns gross features, but their histologic have not been described. One hundred thirty patients studied. Thirty-nine (24 males) had BD; 44 (38 FED; 15 (7 Marfan’s (MS); 32 (25 a non-determined disease. Histological resected segment evaluated using scores severity. A discriminant analysis was performed. groups defined computer checked concordance with surgeon. Collagen alterations found most severe MS patients. BD myxoid infiltration. elastic fiber alterations. No males only one females misclassified procedure into group. Overall, percentages correct matchings 54% 62% females. When age size ring added histology additional information provided more discrimination, reached 90% 100% are two fairly distinct entities, which quantitative histology, whereas modest differences qualitative
