摘要: Osteoconductive calcium phosphate coatings for total joint arthroplasty have been in clinical use since the mid1980s. The basic principles involved and science evidence efficacy of osteoconductive were examined. Hydroxyapatite provide consistent better filling with bone gaps spaces around cementless components after surgery as compared porous-coated implant surfaces, resulting stability. Of all coatings, hydroxyapatite had most widespread application hip arthroplasty. Their advantages over more conventional surfaces are evident primary revision arthroplasties. A survival rate author's series 97% at a minimum 11 years followup femoral component young active patient population (average age, 53 years) was obtained no mechanical failures. average polyethylene wear this group 0.129 mm/year. In similar patients using hydroxyapatite-coated components, an 11-year 93% obtained. Histologic analysis specimens retrieved autopsy confirmed excellent bony fixation components. Advantages recent biomimetic
