Altered heterochromatin binding by a hybrid sterility protein in Drosophila sibling species.

摘要: Hybrid sterility of the heterogametic sex is one first postzygotic reproductive barriers to evolve during speciation, yet molecular basis hybrid poorly understood. We show that male gene Odysseus-site homeobox (OdsH) encodes a protein localizes evolutionarily dynamic loci within heterochromatin and leads their decondensation. In Drosophila mauritiana x simulans hybrids, OdsH from D. (OdsHmau) acts as sterilizing factor by associating with heterochromatic Y chromosome simulans, whereas (OdsHsim) does not. Characterization sterile testes revealed abundance localization in premeiotic phases spermatogenesis differ between species. These results reveal rapid evolution affects onset sterility.
