摘要: Objective Dementia is an important cause of mortality and, with the ageing population and increasing prevalence dementia, reliable data on prognosis survival will be interest to patients caregivers as well providers commissioners health social care. A review literature was undertaken determine rates in dementia Alzheimer's disease (AD) identify factors that are or not predictive AD. Methods Relevant articles were identified following a search several electronic databases from 1990 September 2012. Inclusion criteria reports prospective community clinic based cohorts published English since 1990, reflect more recent recognition possible predictors. Results Median time age onset ranges 3.3 11.7 years, most studies 7 10-year period. Median diagnosis 3.2 6.6 years for AD whole. Age consistently reported predictor mortality, male gender less consistent predictor. Increased severity functional impairment often associated mortality. Conclusions Substantial heterogeneity design included limits ability prognosticate individual patients. However, it clear significant mortality. Reasons increased established.
