摘要: Recent geochemical studies on ferromanganese deep-sea nodules have shown that the relationship between Mn and Fe allows us to differentiate a diagenetic type (Mn/Fe ≥ 2.5) hydrogenetic ≤ 2.5)1–7. Diagenetic lower parts of mixed are mainly supplied by an early pore water source; grow very slow accumulation inorganic colloidal particles hydrated metal oxides from near-bottom seawater. Growth rates generally do not exceed 5 mm Myr−1 (refs 8–11), whereas were found much faster: extreme example is rate 168 M yr−1 was recently reported for Mn-rich nodule Peru Basin6. A different inter-element Co main metals in has also been observed. We show here flux into seamount crusts central Pacific similar pelagic nodules: amount per unit time area nearly constant oceanic column. The most important factor governing Co-enrichment growth rate; no local source needed explain observed concentrations up 2% ore samples summit areas.
