摘要: [1] The balance between interseismic elastic strain accumulation and coseismic release defines the extent to which a fault system exhibits surplus or deficit of large earthquakes. We calculate regional moment rate in southern California based on slip catalog estimated from block model deformation constrained by GPS measurements. The scalar rate, 17.8 ± 1.1 × 1018 N m/yr, is approximately 50% larger than average over last 200 years. Differences accumulated released displacement fields are consistent with deficits that localized three regions: San Andreas Jacinto faults, offshore faults Los Angeles Ventura basins, Eastern Shear Zone. budget could be balanced events composite magnitude Mw ≈ 8.
