The auditory novelty system: An attempt to integrate human and animal research

摘要: In this account, we attempt to integrate two parallel, but thus far, separate lines of research on auditory novelty detection: (1) human studies EEG recordings the mismatch negativity (MMN), and (2) animal single-neuron stimulus-specific adaptation (SSA). The demonstrating existence neurons showing SSA at different levels along pathway's hierarchy, together with recent results auditory-evoked potential correlates deviance detection very short latencies, that is, 20-40 ms from change onset, support view is a key principle governs functional organization system. Furthermore, generation MMN recorded scalp seems involve cascade neuronal processing occurs successive system's hierarchy.
