摘要: Abstract Background At our hospital, medical students lost privileges to perform urinary catheterization because of concern regarding catheter-associated tract infections. We hypothesized that trained could with the same proficiency as licensed practitioners. Methods Medical completed a credentialing program in catheterization. Prospectively, rate infections after performed by was compared health system–wide non–medical using an incidence ratio (IRR). Results Over 9 months, total 432 and 55,401 catheter days accrued patients who underwent medial students, resulting 1 129 infections, respectively. The per 1,000 2.31 student–placed catheters 2.33 non–MS-placed (IRR = .99, P .55). Conclusions Preclinical resulted reinstatement qualified students. Student can match
