Thermally activated domain boundary formation on a missing row reconstructed surface: Au(1 1 0)

摘要: Abstract In this paper we describe the observation of spontaneous, thermally activated formation domain boundaries in missing row reconstruction Au(1 1 0) obtained with scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The nucleate at two special sites on surface: termination , where four steps annihilate one point, and crossing cross each other. order to determine boundary energies, their length distributions by a simple theory, which accounts not only for energy boundary, but also change free vicinity boundary. An even better description is including elastic step–step interactions. both cases, derive very low energies. Combining information energies kinks Au(1 1 0)-surface, previous studies, test theoretical models disordering phase transitions that surface exhibits: deconstruction roughening. This reports last series, energetics has been studied; add an overview experimentally values.
