摘要: Abstract Cochin estuary, one of the largest tropical estuaries India, supports high levels human pressure throughout year and natural stress during monsoon season. Six stations were monitored between 2002 2004 covering pre-monsoon, monsoon, post-monsoon seasons. Ecological status macrobenthos was assessed using AZTI's Marine Biotic Index (AMBI) multivariate-AMBI (M-AMBI). The overall ‘moderate’ disturbance classification (according to AMBI) ‘moderate-poor’ ecological M-AMBI) indicate that in estuary experiences stress. There a gradient increasing quality from most degraded northern site main downstream. Monsoon caused further reductions while station showed improvement 2003, when strong. assessment Estuary AMBI M-AMBI indicates where this water body stands comparison European other bodies, which may be useful for developing required protective measures systems design monitoring strategies.
