摘要: 1. Incubation of Bacillus subtilis 168 trp in a glucose–amino acids–salts medium lacking tryptophan leads to an inhibition cellular growth without affecting cell-wall synthesis. The cell walls increased approximately two- three-fold thickness and at the same time amount mucopeptide cells measured chemically about extent. 2. Synthesis teichoic acid as by extent incorporation radioactivity continued linearly for 1h then stopped. No reason was found strictly limited synthesis wall polymers. 3. initial rates [32P]Pi or [3H]alanine into 3H-labelled amino acids were not appreciably inhibited addition chloramphenicol medium. 4. There no selective turnover synthesized on resumption complete 5. Wall taking place during thickening process similar normal proceeding growing cells. Walls different thicknesses prepared from incubated various times incomplete did differ qualitatively composition. products autolysis thickened isolated analyses indicated close similarity details their structure compared with exponential phase.
