Botulinum toxin is effective and safe for palatal tremor: a report of five cases and a review of the literature.

摘要: Palatal tremor (formerly palatal myoclonus) is an extremely rare, but potentially treatable cause, of objective tinnitus. The tinnitus thought to be secondary rhythmic involuntary movements the soft palate. Its aetiology variable and it remains difficult treat. Many different medical surgical remedies have been tried none demonstrated reproducible success. Botulinum toxin has used in sporadic cases seems produce good results. Ten patients with presented this department over last three years. After discussion regard management condition possible complications, five opted for botulinum therapy declined further intervention. Clinical diagnosis was made on confirmation palate synchronous audible clicking noise. Five underwent injection into insertion levator tensor veli palatini muscles. Of that were treated toxin, four showed complete resolution symptoms after a course treatment. Only one patient reported transient side effects. This would suggest safe effective first line treatment tremor.
