摘要: The mantle plume concept is currently being challenged as an explanation for North Atlantic Igneous Province formation. Alternative models have been suggested, including delamination, meteorite impact, small-scale rift-related convection, and chemical heterogeneities. We review available data sets on uplift, strain localization, age chemistry of igneous material, tomography the compare them with predictions from alternative models. quite successful in explaining formation Province, but unexplained aspects remain. Delamination impact are not supported. Rift-related convection appear to be able explain volcanic rifted margin volcanism well. However, most important problem that nonplume need overcome continuing, long-lived melt anomaly extending via Greenland Faeroe ridges Iceland. Mantle heterogeneities resulting ancient subducted slab included plate tectonic continuing production model, there still uncertainties related this idea solved.
