摘要: Even though potent antiretrovirals are available against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 infection, therapy fails in a significant fraction of patients. Among the most relevant reasons for treatment failure drug toxicity and side effects, but also development viral resistance towards drugs applied. Efflux by ATP-binding cassette (ABC-) transporters represents one major mechanism influencing pharmacokinetics antiretroviral particularly their distribution, thus modifiying concentration within infected cells, that is, at site action. Moreover, drug-drug interactions may occur level these modulate activity or expression efficacy substrate drugs. This review summarizes current knowledge on interaction used HIV-1 with ABC-transporters highlights impact cellular therapeutic success. suitability different cell models studying is discussed.
