摘要: BACKGROUND: Cultural environmental and diet-related factors were postulated to lead a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in Kabuls socioeconomically deprived children under 5 years age. We investigated the plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin (25-OHD) such group. METHODS: Children between 6 months up age randomly sampled Chindawal area Kabul January 2005. Plasma samples frozen below -20 degrees C 25(OH)D3 concentrations estimated by high-pressure liquid chromatography. RESULTS: For all 107 tested median 25(OH)D concentration was ng/mL with range 2-24 ng/mL; 73% had < 8 13 other not analyzed due insufficiency staff or technical problems. About 35 others approached either did give consent blood could be obtained. CONCLUSIONS: This study conducted high-risk population at peak season for deficiency. conclude that this living great risk developing rickets possible immunological effects
