摘要: Steroid hormones are believed to enter cells solely by free diffusion through the plasma membrane. However, recent studies suggest existence of cellular uptake pathways for carrier-bound steroids. Similar clearance cholesterol via lipoproteins, these involve recognition carrier proteins endocytic receptors on surface target cells, followed internalization and delivery bound sterols. Here, we discuss emerging concept that steroid can selectively steroidogenic tissues receptor-mediated endocytosis, implications hormone metabolism action in vivo.
