摘要: Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are common among injection drug users (IDUs). Subcutaneous intramuscular ("skin-popping") the of "speedballs" (a mixture heroin cocaine) important risk factors for SSTIs in this patient population. Female IDUs appear to be at greater than male IDUs, probably because more difficult venous access. There conflicting data regarding impact HIV human T-cell lymphotrophic virus II infection on IDUs; however, an expanding body evidence suggests that immunosuppressive effects drugs themselves may play a role. Most information microbiology comes from skin subcutaneous abscesses, where Staphylococcus aureus organisms originate oral flora predominate. Clonal outbreaks uncommon including tetanus, wound botulism, sepsis/myonecrosis syndrome due Clostridium species have been recently reported IDUs.
