Object Neophilia in Domestic Purebred Dogs

摘要: Neophilia is defined as a preference for novelty. This characteristic has been described in variety of animal species, and may have contributing factor the domestication dogs. study tested three purebred dog breeds neophilia with inanimate objects. Observations dogs’ selections when presented two familiar toys novel toy were analyzed. Novel preferred 60% presenting significant neophilic trend (P=0.002). Of analyzed, Labradors selected 53% time, while Brittanys them 67% selections. Although both showed trend, only one was it (Brittanys, P=0.009). Differing degrees tendency exist among breeds. These tendencies played role dogs, lend insight into breed characteristics.
