摘要: An elementary question in porous media research is regard to the relationship between structure and function. In most fields, porosity permeability of are properties key interest. There is, however, no universal since not only does fraction void space matter for but also connectivity fraction. With evolution modern day X-ray microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) advanced computing, it now possible visualize at an unprecedented level detail. Approaches analyzing micro-CT data structures vary literature from phenomenological characterization network analysis geometrical and/or topological measurements. This leads a about how consistently characterize way that facilitates theoretical developments. this effort, Minkowski functionals (MF) emerge field statistical physics where evident many physical processes depend on geometry topology bodies or multiple 3D space. Herein we review basis MF, mathematical theorems methods necessary characterization, common measurement errors when using recent findings relating MF macroscale properties. paper written provide basics wealth information generated imaging media, develop understanding limitations opportunities exciting area research.
