Overall age- sex-adjusted incidence rates were 6.0/100,000 2.5/100,000 person-years, respectively. The DCM doubled from 3.9/100,000 in first 5 to 7.9/100,000 person-years last study. corresponding change HCM was 1.4 3.6/100,000 person-years. Age- prevalence as January 1, 1985, 36.5/100,000 19.7/100,000 population, persons less than 55 old 17.9/100,000, over a third whom New York Heart Association functional Class III or IV at diagnosis. These estimates may be value determining potential use health care resources, particularly cardiac transplantation.
