摘要: Soil bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis are subject to drastic variations of environmental conditions temperature, humidity, and nutrient source availability. At the onset stationary phase, faced with a depletion essential nutrients, B. can adopt several responses, including synthesis macromolecule-degrading enzymes, competence for genetic transformation, increased motility chemotaxis, antibiotic production, finally, sporulation. Regulation by two-component systems presents original features. Some these features discussed, within framework DegS/DegU ComP/ComA signal transduction network. The chapter describes degradative enzyme synthesis. Sequence similarities suggest conserved His-189 residue DegS protein kinase Asp-56 DegU response regulator likely candidates respective phosphorylation sites two proteins. discusses gene expression, Both control expression late genes; however, they seem act through different branches in regulatory pathway that intersect allow comK. An exciting area future research will be identify types signals involved regulation each other regulators MecB/MecA ComQ-ComX-Spo0K pathway, well determining how interact
