摘要: Vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) is an approved treatment for epilepsy and currently under investigation as a therapy other disorders, including depression, anxiety Alzheimer's disease. This review examines the pre-clinical clinical literature relating to VNS. A brief historical perspective given, followed by consideration of efficacy various applications Finally, what known about mechanism which VNS exerts benefit considered. It concluded that although precise action still unknown, search has potential lend new insight into neuropathology depression. important prior assumptions influence on particular aspects brain function do not constrain investigations.
