摘要: Recent “oil shocks” in the form of not only price volatility, but also catastrophic oil spills, growing acceptance climate change, and public contestations over wars major projects, have multiplied recent years – indications that spaces practices energy intensive social formations are becoming increasingly politicized objects concern. The paper summarizes petro-state thesis reviews contributions on geographies oil. While is useful for conceptualizing some aspects political dynamics oil, it fails to capture concern four areas work oil: petro-capitalism economies violence, socially produced scarcity, petro-state(s) expanded polities, “new realities oil,” such as changes size location demand supply, dilemmas associated with security change. conclusion discusses ties everyday life, pointing a research agenda integrating consideration hydrocarbons into wider geographical inquiries.
