Intervention in children with Developmental Coordination Disorder: the role of parents and teachers.

摘要: Background: Children with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) are a heterogeneous group who have marked impairment in the performance of functional skills. Provision for these children is usually made via paediatrician through occupational or physiotherapy though, prevalence rate 5%, regular provision not possible due to limited professional resources. Aims: The study aimed determine extent which parents and teachers, guidance, can assist management DCD; whether DCD helped this way how may contribute our understanding condition. Sample: Thirty-one aged 7 9 years participated study. Methods: Following assessment, individual profiles were developed each week teachers given guidelines working child had three four sessions lasting approximately 20 minutes. In Phase 1, one worked other parents. 2, two groups swapped over. assessed regularly throughout project using Movement ABC, together diaries comments from parents. Results: At end 40-week study, 27 showed significant improvement their motor skills. Conclusions: Both able provide effective intervention majority children. It that did improve difficulties more complex type require specialist therapy meet need.
