Resource competition modulates the seed number–fruit size relationship in a genotype-dependent manner: A modeling approach in grape and tomato

摘要: Abstract Fruit size is a key criterion of the external quality fruit and may affect consumer acceptance. We used model to analyze effects seed number on in two fleshy fruits, grape tomato, different genotypes, grown carbohydrate availability conditions. The two-parameter described within-fruit resource competition accurately represented commonly observed decrease fresh weight per with increasing number, regardless species, genotype or level considered. However, levels strongly modified correlation between fruit, resulting an increase, no change, individual fruit. In grape, lowering decreased parameter reflecting potential one-seeded under given availability, whereas response was genotype-dependent tomato more reflected for resources. values obtained this suggested that there undercompensating resources domesticated genotypes. Finally, colocalizations quantitative trait loci parameters indicated plant susceptibility might determine weight.
