摘要: Osteoporosis is one of the most difficult problems in management Chronic Juvenile Arthritis (JCA). The available data suggest that bone loss results from multifactorial processes which lead to degradation through activation osteoclasts. Biphosphonates are synthetic factors that, once localized on surface hydroxyapatite crystals, do not allow either production or destruction crystals. This activity seems be due cytotoxicity against osteoclasts and inhibition prostaglandin E2 synthesis. There some evidence these drugs effective treatment osteoporosis several diseases. In an attempt reduce prevent children affected by JCA we started a trial with disodium clodronate, type biphosphonate. Thirteen patients were enrolled study: 7 received clodronate 6 acted as control subjects. Before starting therapy after year performed CT scan evaluate mineral density all patients. mean increased content 129 mg/cc before 134 (8% increase); passed 123 115 (7% decrease) same period. Only child stopped because gastrointestinal side effects. small number does any definite conclusions drawn, but interesting worthy further study.
