Multidimensional scaling, particularly INDSCAL program, makes it possible to determine characteristics strongly perceived by different housewives. A survey North-East Lancashire shows that housewives share a common perceptual space centres supplying both groceries and greengroceries, but emphases on dimensions vary, often according closeness shops. Dimensions reflecting price, centre size location occur frequently need include these concepts housewives' responsiveness them is indicated.
