摘要: Purpose Preoperative chemoradiation therapy (CRT) significantly decreases local recurrence in locally advanced rectal cancer. Various biomarkers biopsy specimens obtained before CRT have been proposed as predictors of response. However, reliable remain to be established. Methods and Materials The study group comprised 101 consecutive patients with cancer who received preoperative oral uracil/tegafur (UFT) or S-1. We evaluated histologic findings on hematoxylin eosin (H&E) staining immunohistochemical expressions Ki67, p53, p21, apoptosis 7 days after starting CRT. These were contrasted the response degree tumor shrinkage. Results In CRT, marked regression according Japanese Classification Colorectal Carcinoma (JCCC) criteria shrinkage barium enema examination (BE) greater p21-positive tumors than those p21-negative ( P =.04 =.02, =.01, =.03, respectively). both BE well MRI was apoptosis-positive apoptosis-negative tumors, respectively. Histologic changes H&E-stained correlated pathologic complete JCCC criteria, Conclusions Immunohistochemical p21 together are strong
