Northernmost Record of the Merck’s Rhinoceros Stephanorhinus kirchbergensis (Jäger) and Taxonomic Status of Coelodonta jacuticus Russanov (Mammalia, Rhinocerotidae)

摘要: A lower jaw of Stephanorhinus kirchbergensis from the Mus Khaya locality on Yana River in Yakutia is described. This was previously designated as a paratype Coelodonta jacuticus, but morphological and morphometric analysis has shown that it actually belongs to typical S. kirchbergensis. Morphometric parameters holotype (skull) C. jacuticus fall within range intraspecific variation antiquitatis. The same results study were obtained for subspecies antiquitatis pristinus a. humilis. suggests pristinus, humilis are invalid taxa which should be regarded junior synonyms find northern northernmost occurrence this species.
