摘要: Summary Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are natural polyesters of increasing biotechnological importance that synthesized by many prokaryotic organisms as carbon and energy storage compounds in limiting growth conditions. PHAs accumulate intracellularly form inclusion bodies covered with a proteinaceous surface layer (granule-associated proteins or GAPs) conforming network-like structural, metabolic regulatory polypeptides, configuring the PHA granules complex well-organized subcellular structures have been designated ‘carbonosomes’. GAPs include several enzymes related to metabolism (synthases, depolymerases hydroxylases) together so-called phasins, an heterogeneous group small-size cover most granule devoid catalytic functions but nevertheless play essential role structure metabolism. Structurally, phasins amphiphilic shield hydrophobic polymer from cytoplasm. Here, we summarize characteristics different identified so far producer highlight diverse opportunities they offer Biotechnology field.
