Personality and Obese Body Mass Index

摘要: This study investigated the relationship between obese range Body Mass Index (BMI) and personality variables as measured by Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2). The sample consisted of 129 participants referred for preoperative psychological evaluation. Each completed an MMPI-2 clinical interview. Multilevel linear regression analysis was used to assess contribution prediction variance in BMI. Age, Scale 9 (Hypomania), 4 (Psychopathic Deviate) emerged statistically significant predictors predicted 7.8%, 6.4%, 3.1% participant BMI, respectively, with a combined power 17.3%. F-scores final, best fit model, age on Level 1 2, were (p<.0009). Results suggest severely bariatric surgery candidates may be more prone impulsivity, irritability, instability. However, limited predictive scales indicates restricted utility.
