摘要: Russia is a major player in the global wheat market, but extensive unused land resources and large yield gaps suggest that production can be substantially increased. We combined time series of cultivated cropland, abandoned cropland gap estimates to assess potential European Russia. Current constrained by volatile inter-annual precipitation patterns low applications nitrogen fertilizers. demonstrate modest increases crop productivity recultivation recently croplands could increase 9–32 million tons under rainfed conditions. Increases yields, particularly within fertile black soil belt southern Russia, will contribute share prospective increases. Frequently recurring droughts, likely exacerbated future climate change, adverse market conditions jeopardize exploitation potentials. Improved adaptation substantial institutional political reforms agricultural sector are necessary leverage
