摘要: This study evaluates the quality of injury-related coding in state hospital data and their usefulness to injury researchers. Using 1997 discharge records from 19 states, hospitalized non-fatal cases were identified by first selecting all that met broad criteria for injury, then dropping appeared incorrectly coded as injuries related medical care. Based on our criteria, 1,129,980 probable acute injuries. Three-quarters with a traditional diagnosis primary field, 90% had somewhere six fields. Of an code three fields, 88.1% E coded. completeness varied state, some states reporting high rates using non-specific codes. Other challenges included E-coded where no was reported apparent miscoding code. We conclude it is possible combine multiple states' if researchers are aware they may encounter.
