摘要: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) represents one of the most important technical innovations in healthcare history, yet systemic responses to CPB remain a fundamentally unresolved problem. Study blood–biomaterial interaction and development biocompatible materials is intimately related efforts optimize patient outcome following CPB. This article reviews design biomaterial surfaces that have been introduced into clinical practice an attempt ameliorate detrimental consequences CPB, contrasting actual improvements benefits achieved against those predicted on basis theory vitro testing. Some discussion underlying mechanisms action as presently understood provided current limitations biomaterial-dependent strategies improve are addressed.
