Cefpodoxime-Proxetil versus Trimethoprim-Sulfamethoxazole for Short-Term Therapy of Uncomplicated Acute Cystitis in Women

摘要: One hundred sixty-three women with uncomplicated acute lower urinary tract infections were included in a multicenter randomized study comparing cefpodoxime-proxetil (one 100-mg tablet twice daily) trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole double-strength [160/800 mg] for 3 days. A total of 30 both arms excluded from the various reasons. At 4 to 7 days after discontinuation therapy, 62 63 (98.4%) recipients and 70 (100%) patients clinically cured demonstrated bacteriological eradication, respectively. 28 treatment, 48 55 (87.3%) 43 50 (86%) as well 51 60 (85%) 42 (84%) Independently prescribed regimen, significant difference (P < 0.001) failure rates was observed only previous history three or more episodes cystitis per year. With exception one patient arm who discontinued therapy because gastrointestinal pain, antimicrobials tolerated. In conclusion, treatment safe effective women.
